Another Snowy Day
We were supposed to be visiting a co-worker of John’s at his church in Gaithersburg today. The weather reports seemed to show that it had been snowing and sleeting for a while down there, though it hadn’t gotten to us yet. The second we walked out the door it started to come down, so instead of heading down there we went out and got some breakfast and did a little bible study of our own.
On the way home, the roads were completely covered with snow and some guy came within inches of buying our truck. He pulled to the right to give us some room (it’s a narrow road), hit a snow bank and bounced back out toward us. John yanked the wheel to the right and we started to slide. Both trucks were safely stopped, less than six inches apart. At that point we decided to just park it and stay home for the rest of the day.
We’ve got about 4 more inches now (on top of what was left from the last storm), and it has changed over to freezing rain. Tomorrow is definitely going to be fun. *grumble*

Since I had nothing else to do, I spent some time bird watching. I counted at least 15 Cardinals, a few Jays, lots of Juncos. I also saw a few woodpeckers: a Red-headed, a Red-bellied, a couple of Downys and one Hairy. People often see the Red-bellied woodpecker and mistake it for the Red-headed. Yes, they both have red heads. But the true Red-headed has a maroon color that covers its entire head. The Red-bellied has a bright orange stripe up the back, but the sides are white. If you get a look at its underside, you’ll see that it has a redish tone, which is where its name comes from.
