There’s a Lightning Bug in My Wine Glass!!!

I spent some time outside last night coming up with a plan of attack for rebuilding the front hill/wall. I don’t seem to have pictures of it, but to the left of the front steps there was a curved red brick wall with a planter in the middle. It was sinking very badly, so I took it down brick by brick with the intention of rebuilding it. Once I had it down, we figured out that there really is no good way to rebuild it permenantly. We found out from a neighbor that the previous-previous owner would take it down and rebuild it every spring.

There’s no way I can do that.

My main goal is to make this side of the steps look like the other side, which is a gentle slope covered in Blue Rug Juniper. The ground at the top of the steps is covered in white rocks instead of mulch. I’m getting lots of weeds growing up through them and it looks very ugly now. Today’s project is to get rid of the white rocks and use some of the dirt from the top to form the left side of the hill to match the right side. If I have time, I will plant a few Juniper bushes and mulch it to keep out the weeds. And if I have any time after that, I will mulch the top too.

I don’t seem to have a before picture, so here’s an in-progress pic:

Here is an after shot:

Now THAT looks much better!

(By the way — as I was sitting outside dreaming up this whole plan last night, a lightning bug flew into my wine glass. Gross!)
