It’s Not You, It’s Me

Dear Flylady,

I turned to you in 2000, newly single and on my own for the first time in my life. You were there for me with routines and a structured environment. And when I remarried and owned my first (town)home, you were there to assist in keeping everything in its place. But now it’s 2007 and I’m living in a 40-year old house (in need of lots of care) in a rural area and driving an hour or more each way to work. Your idea of breaking things into zones is great; but your zones just don’t work for me. As a Payroll SHE, your weekly plan won’t work for me either, because I work 9 hour days and can’t take the time out to run errands in the middle of the day.

Your emails, with demands of 27-fling-boogies in the middle of the day, are geared to people who stay at home, and are sent way too frequently for me to cope with. I ended up filtering out the reminders and just reading the testimonials until even they numbered too many. Your stats show 573 went out in the month of May; that’s almost 20 emails every day! (Since I’m trying to let you down easy, I’m not even going to bring up the incessant advertising.)

I’ve gotten to the point where I’m finally willing to admit that it’s just not going to work out. I’m sure there are quite a few Payroll SHEs who have discovered the same thing I have. And yet despite the annoyances something keeps dragging us back. So I’m going to create my own zones. I’ve setup my own personal Yahoo! Groups email list and am using it to send myself my own customized “Payroll SHE” reminders. I’m tracking my own water intake and exercise minutes on SparkPeople.

You’ve done a lot for me, but it’s just time to move on. So long dear Flylady, and thanks for all the fish.
