Northern Mockingbird Nest

I got home from Orlando on Friday afternoon. While I was talking to my sister on the phone, I noticed a couple of Northern Mockingbirds hanging around the front yard. I thought they were feasting on the Japanese Beetles that were swarming the beetle trap but then noticed that they were grabbing some sticks from the yard. After some investigation I found that they were building a nest in the lilac bush. I checked the nest on Sunday afternoon and found that it was complete and there was one blue/grey egg inside.

One of the birds (I presume to be Mom since it was daytime), was watching me very closely as I was taking some pictures of the nest. It’s too deep in the shrub to get pictures of the eggs, unfortunately. But here’s Mom sitting on the fence. :-)

I found a second egg in the nest yesterday afternoon, and a third today.
