Sushi!

We went to the late service at Seneca Creek this morning. Once we got home I put some more mulch down and took a dip in the pool while John paid some bills. We had been planning on going out to dinner tonight but hadn’t yet decided where. I thought sushi would be nice since John hadn’t had it in a while. After looking around online I decided on Miyako, which had pretty good reviews. It was an excellent choice!

I started off the meal with some warm sake. Their miso was some of the best that we’ve ever had. It was served along with a salad of shredded imitation crab mixed with salmon roe. Completely unexpected and totally tasty. We ordered a cucumber roll, spicy tuna roll and a “Spider Roll” to share between us. The spider roll had deep fried soft crab in it. The cluster of legs stuck out from either end. I thought it was great but John wasn’t terribly impressed.

Once we had finished, John pulled out the menu and agonized over whether to order anything else. The chef said something and I looked up — he was handing me a tray with a (gratis) custom made roll. He didn’t tell us what it was called, but it had snow crab, shrimp, avocado, cucumber and cream cheese in it. It seriously was the best roll of the night. We thanked him profusely and tipped him very well before leaving. If you’re in the Frederick area, put Miyako on your list. For those who don’t like sushi (even vegetarian sushi like me!), they are also a steakhouse so you can get tempura from the grill too!

If you’re new to sushi, “SoYouWanna enjoy sushi?” is a terrific tutorial. It’s got great info about the different types of sushi, sushi ingredients and restaurant etiquette.
