Do You Count?

Today is opening day for Cornell University’s “Project Feederwatch.” Thousands of volunteers will watch their bird feeders and report counts of the birds they see from November through April. In addition to providing Cornell with valuable information about winter bird populations and their migrating habits, you’ll also learn about bird watching. The fee to participate is $15. Once you sign up they will send you a research kit that includes a full color poster to help you identify the most prevalent birds in your area, a calendar, data entry sheets and bird feeding tips. Project Feederwatch is a great opportunity for anyone to get involved in bird watching.

If you’re interested, you can sign up here. It’s almost never too late — you can sign up until February 28th. Come on… $15 is cheap entertainment. :-) Even if you don’t sign up, pop on over to the Cornell Lab of Ornithology website to learn something about the really neat birds in your area.

I count (this is my third year!), do you?
