Thursday Thirteen #1: Song Lyrics

Thirteen Favorite Song Lyrics
1. Million Pieces (Kissin’ Your Cares Goodbye) — Newsboys

“Carryin’ a millstone malaise, It’s been pullin down your gaze.
You pound the pavement, it don’t even care, this weight ain’t yours to bear.
Why you holdin’ grudges in old jars, why you wanna show off all your scars?
What’s it gonna take to lay a few burdens down, it’s a beautiful sound;

When they all fall like rain drops, fallin’ from a blue sky
Kissin’ your cares goodbye.
Oh as they all fall like a million pieces, a ticker-tape parade (high)
Now you’re free to fly.”

2. Something Beautiful — Newsboys

“I want to start it over, I want to start again
I want a new beginning, one without an end.
I feel it inside, calling out to me.

It’s the voice that whispers my name, it’s the kiss without any shame.
Something beautiful. (Yeah Yeah)
Like a song that stirs in my head, saying love will take us where,
Something’s beautiful.”

3. Better Now — Collective Soul

(Yeah Yeah) Oh I’m newly calibrated.
(Yeah Yeah) All shiny and clean.
(Yeah Yeah) I’m your recent adaptation.
(Yeah Yeah) Time to redefine me.

4. Colored People — DC Talk

“A piece of canvas is only the begining for;
it takes on character with every loving stroke.
This thing of beauty is the passion of an artists heart;
by God’s design, we are skin kalleidescope.
We’ve got to come together, aren’t we all human after all?

We’re colored people and we live in a tainted place.
We’re colored people and they call us the human race.
We’ve got a history so full of mistakes.
We’re colored people who depend on a holy grace.”

5. My Immortal – Evenescence

The death of my dad haunted me for a very long time. As I became an adult, his memory haunted me — I always wondered if he would have been proud of me.

If you have to leave, I wish that you would just leave.
Cause your presence still lingers here, and it won’t leave me alone.
These wounds won’t seem to heal, this pain is just too real.
There’s just so much that time cannot erase.

…..

I’ve tried so hard to tell myself that you’re gone.
But though you’re still with me, I’ve been alone along.

6. Who Am I — Casting Crowns

Who am I? That the Lord of all the earth;
Would care to know my name, would care to feel my hurt.
Who am I? That the bright and morning star would choose to light the way,
For my ever wandring heart.

I am a flower quickly fading, a wave tossed on the ocean;
A vapor in the wind.
Still you hear me when I’m calling, Lord you catch me when I’m falling;
And You told me who I am, I am Yours.

7. I Can Only Imagine — Mercy Me

I can only imagine, what it will be like;
When I walk by your side.
I can only imagine, when your face is before me;
I can only imagine.

Surrounded by your glory, what will my heart feel?
Will I dance for you Jesus, or in awe of You be still?
Will I stand in your presence, or to my knees will I fall?
Will I sing “hallelujah”, will I be able to speak at all?
I can only imagine, I can only imagine.

8. Missing — Beck

Something always takes the place of missing pieces;
You can take and put together, even though you;
Know there’s something missing.

9. 100 Years — Five for Fighting

I’m ninety-nine for a moment, dying for just another moment,
And I’m just dreaming, counting the ways to where you are.

10. The Howling — Rich Mullins

I can see some traveler’s footprints, there’s a little bit of blood in every step he makes;
I wonder what kind of burden he’s bearing that’s cut him every step along the long long way.
And in the west I see an evening, this scarlet thread stretched beneath the growing dark,
Red as the blood on the hands of the Savior, as rich as the mercy that flowed from His broken heart.

11. Sometimes by Step — Rich Mullins

Sometimes I think of Abraham, how one star he saw had been lit for me;
He was a stranger in this land and I am that no less than he.
And on this road to righteousness, sometimes the climb can be so steap;
I may falter in my steps, but never beyond Your reach.

12. Does Anybody Hear Her? — Casting Crowns

Does anybody hear her? Can anybody see?
Oh, does anybody know she’s going’ down today?
Under the shadow of our steeple, with all the lost and lonely people,
Searching for the hope that’s tucked away in you and me.
Does anybody hear her? Can anybody see?

13. Loser — Beck

And my time is a piece of wax fallin’ on a termite
Thats chokin’ on the splinters

I am always pleasantly surprised (being from the seventies) to find songs listed in these lists that I know. Having had a teenager in the mid-Nineties, I fell IN LOVE with Collective Soul. don’t know the others, though!

This is a great list! I love so many of these songs! Welcome to the TT :)

I’d be thrilled to have you join the 30 Day Study with me – I will be posting more in the coming days :)

I love #5 and #9. Really good songs.

I love this list. Song lyrics are so close to my heart. I have written about them many times. It’s simply amazing how lyrics can speak to our hears and reverberate there. Thanks for a look at yours.
