Happy New Year

Happy 2008! Another new year is upon us. We spent last night at our friend, Neil’s house. It was an evening of great food, many fine drinks, dear friends and as always, the unspoken threat of a visit from the police — everything that a great party should be!My menu for the party was on the rich side, so I suppose we’re pretty lucky that calories don’t count on New Year’s Eve:

Appetizers

  • Assorted Cheeses with crackers and mustards
    • Brie
    • Bleu
    • Smoked Fontina (an excellent new find for all of us!)
    • Boursin
  • Chips and dip
  • Veggies

Dinner

  • Cilantro Cream Chicken
  • bacon-wrapped asparagus
  • basmati rice
  • green beans with shallot and garlic (brought by Deanna)
  • squash and potato casserole (Deanna)

Desserts

  • Assorted candies and fudge that I had leftover from Christmas
  • Kaluah brownies (Deanna)
  • Apple Crisp (David)

In pondering New Year’s resolutions last night, I briefly thought about resolving to get my carcass off the couch and lose (redacted) pounds this year. The problem is that resolutions are easily made and even more easily broken, so I’m not going to resolve to do anything. But I am going to try to make some healthy changes to my lifestyle. Eating a little less and being active a lot more are the obvious choices. I will try to drink more water each day. That will be a tough one because I don’t particularly care for water. If I lose weight, great; if I don’t then hopefully I’ll be healthier and happier anyway.

Enough of my rambling. May 2008 be everything that you dream it could be. :-D

(32 days until Disney! Woo!)
