Catching Up

Wow, it’s really been a couple of weeks — I’m so far behind!� So, I guess I’ll catch up the normal stuff first and then work on my huge Disney Vacation post.

I spent most of the month of January down with both Flu and Bronchitis. Unfortunately, I was still sick (and on my second round of antibiotics and steroids) during our vacation. I spent most of this week coughing and trying to catch up on entirely too much stuff at work.

John’s great-aunt Addie died while were were in Florida, and the funeral was scheduled for this past Wednesday morning. We were supposed to go to the viewing with Mom and Dad on Tuesday night, but the weather wasn’t cooperating. By the time they got here, it was after 7pm and had been sleeting for a couple of hours. With an Ice Storm Warning over the area, we decided that it just wasn’t meant to be. Wednesday morning, 7am: I take a peek out the window and see headlights reflecting off of our driveway, and sleet still coming down.

Wow, we really did get an ice storm; almost an inch of buildup. It took us hours to shovel the driveway, and unfortunately that caused Mom & Dad to miss the funeral as well, but they did at least make it for the luncheon. By the time John and I made it to work, it was noon, lol.

We worked late on Wednesday and then had a nice dinner at Chipotle. We normally don’t celebrate Valentine’s Day, but with the week John had at work (don’t ask!), I decided to do something special — shrimp cocktail, filet mignon with a wine sauce and bleu cheese, roasted asparagus, a nice Australian Shiraz wine, and chocolate mouse cakes for dessert. Perfect!

On Friday, my doctor certified me as disease free and told me that the coughing should go away soon. I hope so! We met one of John’s former coworkers for dinner and way too much conversation at Upper Deck (formerly Buffalo Wings & Beer). John had a flight lesson this morning and then headed off to “Motorcycle Madness.” MM is an event put on by a friend of John’s — a bunch of motorcycle guys get together in the middle of winter to talk bikes, watch bike movies, and enjoy food, fine bourbons and cigars. It’s a sort of pity-party while they’re waiting for warmer riding weather.

So, I’m here myself this evening. I’m going to use up the rest of the shrimp from Thursday to make a shrimp scampi for dinner, and then I might have the last piece of the chocolate mousse cake for dessert. I’m watching way too much Lifetime Movie Network and of course updating my blog too. We’re having some friends over for the Daytona 500 tomorrow. We haven’t seen them in a while so that should be a lot of fun.
