Food for Thought

As I was cleaning out the inbox on my desk, I came across correspondence from one of John’s something-removed cousins (Bobbi). John’s great-aunt passed in February and Bobbi sent this letter once the funeral was over and her family was back at home. In it, she included a quote that her grandmother had hand-written into her bible. I read it again today, and thought it was a great sentiment that I’d like to pass on. I don’t know if it’s an original writing or if it came from someone else:

“Strength, solace and a serene outlook are imparted to me virtually hour after hour by the presence of God’s gracious Holy Spirit. As if being repeatedly refreshed and restored despite the most desperate circumstances all around me. Unless one has actually gone through such an experience, it may seem difficult to believe. Some may claim that the could not face such a situation. If we walk with God through these valleys, such real and actual refreshment is available. The one best able to comfort another in bereavement is the person who himself has lost a loved one; to minister to one with a broken heart is one who has known a broken heart.

Psalm 23 — ‘Yea, though I walk through the valley … I shall dwell in the presence (care) of the Lord forever.’

The Lord never promised an easy journey, just a safe arrival.

Indeed, we weren’t promised an easy journey — infact, we are guaranteed to pick up many bumps, bruises and broken pieces along the way. But what a journey it is.
