Nothing Special
I was under a lot of stress last week, thanks to my job. Can’t really go into details, but I can say that we had an audit team in for a regularly-scheduled audit and it had me so stressed that I woke up feeling nauseous every morning and could barely eat. I’m doing much better now that it’s over, thankyouverymuch.
This evening the sun started to go down just after we finished dinner. I grabbed a glass ‘o my favorite wine and coaxed John outside, despite the fact that it was bit cool. We shared the wine and watched the sun go down. Just before we headed inside, we got to see the first Hummingbird of the season. It was a female Ruby-Throated Hummingbird and she was about 15 feet from us. John hadn’t seen one in a couple of years, so it was an extra special treat.
Later in the evening, I was watching Dirty Jobs while John was practicing instrument approaches in his flight sim. I noticed that he had turned all of the lights out so I headed back to the office to see what was up. The window was open and he had been hearing some noises. I grabbed a flashlight and shined it at the Dogwood tree. In the tree was a huge raccoon, invading my bird feeder. It didn’t seem to care about the light being shined in its face; no, it was happily pigging out on my seeds. After watching it for about 5 minutes, I grabbed a camera and tried to get a picture. It definitely noticed the flash and climbed out of the tree and headed for the shed, then up the hill to the “back 40.”
I’ve known we have ‘coons around here and I’ve recently found fox scat in the pool area. Nope, the cats definitely aren’t going outside.
