Motivation? Not So Much
There was a time when I could “beat my body into daily submission”, to quote the apostle Paul (1 Corinthians 9:27). I could force myself to get up when the alarm went off at 5am, without complaint or snooze button. I could work well into the night at housework after working all day doing work work. My weekends were amazingly productive. But not so much anymore.
I’m not quite sure what it is. Maybe I’m burned out, or succumbing to the sloth that comes with age. I’m abusing the snooze button and really not wanting to do much of anything when I get home. I do manage to get to the gym regularly but everything else is becoming a “if it gets done it gets done” thing. Don’t get me wrong — the house is clean and we do have clothes to wear, but everything seems to be perpetually behind these days.
How about right now, for instance? I did go to the gym, cleaned the pool, adjusted the pool chemicals, watered my veggie garden, scooped the cat boxes and cleaned out the fridge (tomorrow is trash day). But it’s only 8:30 and there is still some light left — there are so many things I could be doing right now. But I really don’t want to, and so I’m not. There is laundry waiting, thistles to be pulled out of the juniper, and a kitchen floor begging to be mopped. Eh. Maybe tomorrow. It doesn’t help that John’s gone either.
I’m sure everyone goes through times like this, but I really need to snap out of it. It’s driving me nuts!
Update: I talked to John a bit ago (still in Nebraska); he thinks I’m just burned out. I did manage to straighten up the kitchen counters and get a load of dishes cooking in the dish washer. “Just 15 minutes” — Flylady would be proud.
