Critters ‘n Gasoline n’ Other Stuff

We spent Father’s Day weekend with John’s parents.  It was a nice weekend; pretty hot though.  When we got back, my Gas Price Barameter (a family-owned non-branded service station), who had held their ground at $3.99 for weeks while every other station in town hit $4+, had hit $4.03 for a gallon of regular unleaded.  [...]

Melting Yet?

The house that I grew up in didn’t have central a/c or heat.  In the winter, we had electric baseboard heaters and a wood burning stove; in the summer we had a couple of window a/c units (Four?).  The window units were on when it was really hot outside; any other time, the windows were [...]

Someone Else’s Sheets

I’m in Huntsville, AL this week for a business meeting. The first flight (to Cincinnati) was decent except for the last 20 minutes when I thought I was going to die (insane turbulence that was lifting me off of my seat). The second flight was a piece of cake. I had dinner [...]

Ingredients
3 bars Green & Blacks 70% Cocao chocolate bars
12 tablespoons butter
1 cup superfine sugar (put granulated sugar in the food processor; superfine sugar [...]

Wicked Weather

Steak with Mushrooms & Onions in Wine Sauce

A really easy but classy way to serve steaks.

While your steaks are cooking (however you happen to like them), saute equal amounts of mushrooms and sliced onions in 2 tablespoons of olive oil.  When the onions have softened, add 2 tablespoons of Worcestershire sauce and 1/2 cup of Marsala or Port wine.  Keep cooking until [...]

Leaves of Five

I was very productive yesterday — I put down more mulch, did some laundry, worked on the pool chemicals and did a lot of mowing.  Being slightly ambitious, I decided to tackle the Back 40.  I soon discovered that I just don’t have the upper body strength to keep the mower from wanting to flip [...]
