Happy Birthday Dear John
John’s birthday was last week. He was out of town with a conference at work, but ended up coming home early because his dad was ill. We went out to dinner to celebrate and then headed out the next morning to be with his parents until Dad got better. Since we were out of town, we had to cancel the birthday cookout, and there doesn’t seem to be another open Saturday in the next 4 weeks to re-schedule.
So tonight we had cake anyway…
In other news, we got to see this wickness this evening:
That’s a Spider Wasp (top) dragging a Wolf Spider (bottom) up the screen. The wasp, a female, injected the spider with venom, which paralyzed it. Once she gets it to where she’s headed, she will lay an egg on it. The spider will still be alive when the egg hatches, and the larvae will then eat the spider. Nice.
Just one more exciting piece of country life.
